How do we organize and think about science and engineering?
Today's universities and colleges are tied tightly to industry, particularly in science and engineering disciplines. As a result, the pedagogy of science has changed in respect to its nineteenth century counterpart, and the trajectory of the academic follows a particular path reflecting this change. How does this context color the pedagogy of synthetic biology? Should these academic disciplines and their tributaries be organized differently? What benefits and what problems can be expected from doing so?
